Rodenegg Castle - Grace in the mountains

Majestic, imposing and unshakeable - Rodenegg Castle towers over forests and valleys. The imperious fortified castle, built on an elongated rock outcrop, is considered a landmark of the community Rodeneck.

Between Schabs and Mühlbach, Friedrich I von Rodank had the fortress built in 1140. When the noble family died out in 1300, the estate was awarded to the provincial administration. In 1491 it was transferred to the Counts of Wolkenstein-Rodenegg - until today the castle is family-owned.

The sumptuous rooms are home to a museum that displays exhibits, especially furniture, from the late Renaissance. A cultural highlight is the Iwein frescoes, which were discovered in 1972. The murals illustrate the legend of Iwein, which belonged to King Arthur's Round Table.
