South Tyrol – wine variety on
manageable space
Small but beautiful – the contemplative wine region of South Tyrol has 20 different grape varieties that mature and thrive on 5,000 hectares. Every year, the winegrowers produce about 350,000 hectoliters of the noble beverage.
Winegrowing has been a tradition in South Tyrol since Roman times. The vineyards are strongly influenced by the Mediterranean climate, which extends from the Adige Valley to Merano. For this reason, a particularly diverse wine cultivation is possible in South Tyrol.
In particular, white grape varieties play an important role – they account for over 55 percent of total vineyard area. Among the most popular varieties include Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. But also Sauvignon, Kerner, Veltliner, Riesling, Sylvaner and Müller Thurgau impress with their individual tastes.
The red wines from the region also impress with their unique character. Lagrein and Vernatsch represent the autochthonous grape varieties, but all classic grape varieties are grown in South Tyrol. Among them are Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In addition to the favorable climatic conditions, it is mainly due to the dedication of the winegrowers that the fine wines from South Tyrol have a high international reputation.
Many of the South Tyrolean wines can be tasted in our wine cellar. South Tyrol stands for good wine – make sure yourself!
Enchanting sociable
Our witches hut
Barbecues, Kaiserschmarrn and adventurous stories – the enchanted witches hut enriches your holiday by socializing.
The hut, which lies in the Altfass valley, was rebuilt in 1980 by Luis Fischnaller. He received support from the local carpentry and carpentry Pius Untersteiner. Happiness in misfortune happened in 2002: avalanches spilled the cozy house. Thanks to a preventive mound, the witches hut was saved from worse – the roof held.
Some guests are amazed: The Hexenhütte has its own spring water pipe, which donates drinkable water. Since 2010, it has also been equipped with electricity generated by solar energy.
Up here you can experience your holiday in South Tyrol in a very traditional way: Enjoy the pure mountain air, taste and smell the scent of fresh mountain herbs, listen to the splashing of the nearby stream or experience the beneficial effects of Kneipp treatments on your own body. A stone’s throw away flows a clear brook, in which the trout frolicking – the cool, fresh water is ideal for Kneipp fonts. For those who find this too cold, the handle to Kaiserschmarren is recommended instead. Fresh eggs, delicious regional jam and butter bring the scent of Kaiserschmarrns in your nose and promise a fluffy taste experience, as it once enjoyed only Emperor Franz Joseph I.
In the immediate vicinity of the Hexenhütte, the three Seefeld lakes are at 2,500 m altitude, which round off the natural panorama. Nestled in the Pfunderer mountains of the Puster Valley and between lush green alpine meadows, these invite you to refreshing baths or to linger on the shore. Following the rest and food in the magical hut follows.
